An Exercise Physiologist (EP) is a university-qualified allied health professional who specialises in prescribing exercise for people with chronic conditions, injuries, and disabilities. EPs are accredited through Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and are trained to work with complex health presentations — not just general fitness.
-
Each profession brings a different focus. Physiotherapists are experts in assessing and treating musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, using a combination of manual therapy and exercise-based rehabilitation. Personal trainers support generally healthy people with fitness goals. An Exercise Physiologist specialises in exercise as the primary clinical intervention for people living with chronic conditions, injuries, and disability — designing programs that account for diagnosis, medications, pain, and overall health picture. These professions often work alongside each other, and Lisa frequently collaborates with physiotherapists and other allied health professionals as part of a client's broader care team.

Not always. You can self-refer to see an EP at any time. However, to access Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, NDIS, or other funded pathways, a referral from your GP, specialist, or relevant scheme is usually required. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we’ll help you work out the best pathway.
-
Your first session is all about getting to know you — your history, your health, your goals, and what matters to you. Lisa will take the time to listen to your story before completing a thorough assessment, which includes both a conversation about your health and a physical assessment tailored to your presentation. Everything is explained as we go, and you're always welcome to ask questions or let us know if something doesn't feel right. From there, we'll talk with you about what a program could look like — shaped around your goals, your preferences, and what feels manageable for you.
-
No. This is clinical care, not a gym class. Your program is designed around your current capacity — wherever that is. Many of our clients start from a point where they haven’t exercised in a long time, or have been told they can’t. That’s exactly who we’re here for.

Lift is a mobile practice. Most sessions happen at a gym local to you. We also offer home-based programs, hydrotherapy, and telehealth depending on your needs and goals. We cover Perth metro, Mandurah, and Bunbury regions.
-
Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, though this may vary depending on your needs and funding pathway. Your first appointment is usually longer to allow time for a thorough assessment.
-
Yes. Exercise physiology is covered by most private health insurers under extras cover. Check with your fund to confirm your level of cover.

If you have a chronic health condition, you may be eligible to access Medicare-subsidised exercise physiology sessions. This is arranged through your GP as part of a Chronic Condition Management Plan. Your GP can advise whether this pathway is appropriate for your situation.
